The delightful coastal town of Aldeburgh has managed to escape much of the brash commercialism that has affected many of our coastal resorts. It has something for everybody - scenic walks past pastel-coloured houses and fishermen's huts, superb shopping, excellent pubs and restaurants and the world-famous Aldeburgh Festival.
Further up the coast lies Thorpeness, where all is not what it seems! This quaint and pretty little seaside village has an interesting history; originally a small fishing and smuggling hamlet, it was re-built by a Scottish architect, James Ogilvie who had a penchant for Tudor and Jacobean architecturer, and from his vision this Suffolk holiday fantasy village of mock-Tudor buildings arose amongst the purple heather and golden gorse, set backfrom the stunning unspoilt beach.
Golf:- In a very short drive down the coast there are 3 excellent heathland courses with Aldeburgh being in the top 100 courses in Great Britain & Ireland. The excellent drainage at Aldeburgh, Thorpeness & Woodbridge means that top quality golf can be played all the year round whilst nearby Ufford Park is a challenging parkland course with great practice facilities.
