La Monacilla golf course opened in summer 2010 and is situated just outside Aljaraque (on the Costa de la Luz) and almost next to Bellavista Golf Club. These are 2 very different but great value golf courses well worth playing. La Monacilla has been designed by Jose Maria Olazabal and offers a good challenge and fairly flat walk for golfers. The course starts off fairly leisurely with two short and open par 4s but then starts to draw you through the pine forests with longer holes all with large but raised greens. The excellent par 5 seventh has large water hazards on both sides with the green in a tight position behind the lake. A few holes have a longish walk from green to tee but this is definitely a course well worth walking in this lovely and peaceful area. The superb clubhouse opened in Spring 2011 and gives you a great finish to your round in the modern bar & restaurant. The practice area is now also complete. La Monacilla will continue to improve as it matures and a few areas still need some finishing touches. Overall, it provides an excellent 18 hole experience at a great price and with a fantastic walk through the quiet local countryside.
